Matthieson Street was a private residential renovation and extension project I prepared for a Town Planning submission. Located in the South-East of Melbourne, the clients were a young couple with a toddler and another baby on the way. They were expecting to live in the home another 5 years with their young children with the future beyond uncertain. The project included remodelling the kitchen and adding a master bedroom, ensuite and private outdoor area to the rear of the property. Additionally, a new entertaining deck to the front of the property was introduced to allow the parents to supervise their young children as they play in the front yard.
I was working for a Property Development Group when this job was assigned. The client’s were close personal friends of the CEO of the company, so this job was a little different to the tasks I was typically assigned.
My role consisted of taking over the Town Planning stage of the project, where the clients had already sought out design advice from another Architect. However, as most jobs entail, the design needed to be amended and adjusted to fit into the parameters of the ResCODE for the council. Additionally, there were several ideas and concepts from the client that had evolved over time that I had the opportunity to take on board and work my own design concepts into the project.
