Long Night In Pexington was an independent Feature Film operating on a micro-budget in the city of Melbourne. The film centres around a group humans with special abilities and mutations who seek refuge in their apartment building while riots and war rage on outside. However, when the fight makes its way inside, they must band together to survive the night at all costs.
As the Production Designer, I was given the opportunity to create the world within a fictionalised building. Using my skills in design and construction, I took the chance to physically build and dress several sets that would allow the cast to immerse themselves within the world of ‘Pexington’ and create a sense of authenticity in every scene. Due to the creative licence of building a fictionalised world, I had the ability to break the rules on several occasions, creating odd and eccentric props and over exaggerate simple concepts, pushing the ideas of what we perceive as reality.
SET DESIGN
Long Night In Pexington was an extremely laborious and rewarding project to be Production Designer on. We were fortunate enough to acquire a location that was already in a state of disrepair that would be used as the foundation for all the set builds. Each set location required a lot of attention to detail to create and bring the Pexington world to life.
The concept behind the design for the film was ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’, where each set would take the audience deeper into a world of absurdity and chaotic imagination.

SET CONSTRUCTION
The set construction of ‘Pexington’ was a great opportunity to test my design and building skills. With permission to build whatever we required at the location, I was able to construct some exciting and elaborate set pieces. Using miscellaneous junk and recycled materials, the entire film was built on a shoe-string budget with incredible results.
