My role as a Graduate Architect at Steller Property Group was to develop a new look assisted living concept in the aged care sector. Through extensive research of DDA standards and dementia-friendly designs, I was able to produce several different room design concepts that would promote a more comfortable living space that satisfied the design requirements while pushing a luxury design concept of ‘a permanent vacation’ and for the elderly and disabled.

In order to produce a high-end luxury style living space at an affordable cost, a ‘pod-system’ design concept was developed, where each room would be constructed in a factory setting before being implemented into a skeletal frame. Through this method, the construction process would be consistent and the production schedule would be more manageable. In order to successfully implement this design concept, further consideration of the room design layouts needed to be addressed, which would require factoring in space for electrical and plumbing as well as a column system that would penetrate each floor without interfering with the room circulation.
